Intermediate Rules

OVC Intermediate League Rules and general Information 

    • A team must have a minimum of 6 people on the roster 
      • If There are less than 6 players a free agent may be added to your team
    • Each team must have a minimum of two girls per team
    • In case of extreme or severe weather, official word about cancellation will be emailed  between 4:30 & 5:00 pm
    • Teams must use OVC approved balls 
    • games will be recorded by OVC and be used for social media at any point and marketing 
    • most OVC staff will be wearing OVC staff shirts.
    • please foster a environment that allows growth, fun, hard work 
    • absolutely no physical fighting at any time.
    • youth are playing in this league as well. please be respectful of them and parents wishes.  

Pregame setup and warm ups

    • At least 5 players must be present to begin a match including 2 females, unless agreed upon by player captains
    • If a team is short players during the regular season, substitutes are allowed but must be approved by the OVC league coordinator
    • If less than 50% of the players are rostered players the team will forfeit that set
    • Girls are allowed to sub for guys but guys cannot sub for girls
    • Each team will be allowed to warm up how they see fit for 2-5 minutes depending on if the games are running late or on time
    • If a team is more than 5 minutes late after warm up time, that team will forfeit the first game in the match. If a team is more than 10 minutes late, that team will forfeit the match in its entirety
    • designated player of each team will rock/paper/scissors to decide either side or serve

OVC match rules 

    • Each match will be 2 sets to 21 cap 25
    • Tie break round will be 1 set to 15 cap 18
    • switch on third game at 8
    • All games are reffed and scored by an OVC staff member.

Game Play Rules

listed below are some of the rules. please refer to table for the rest of the rules. 

    • Absolutely NO ARGUING with OVC Referee(s) there ruling is final in case of ref incident. the following punishments will be handed out 
    •  The player(s) will receive verbal warning
    •  The player(s) will be told to sit for a full game 
    •  The player(s) will be ejected from the game and possibly asked to leave the facility
    •  Player will be removed from facility and no longer able to participate in the league
    • Each team must have 1 female on the court at all times.  
    • No more than 3 hits before returning
    • When it’s hit any combination of players may hit the ball 
    • Excessive doubles are not allowed on the second or third contact in a play. OVC ref will be only deciding factor
    • Blocking and or attacking the serve is not allowed
    • Breaking the plane of the net is not allowed unless blocking
    • Lifts are NOT allowed
    • A player may not touch the ball 2 consecutive times unless directly after an opposing team member blocked their play A block does not count as a touch
    • Touching the net is not allowed
    • If the ball touches the out of bounds line, it is considered in
    • When the ball is returned, it must stay between the antennas
    • If the ball touches the antenna or is hit on the outside of it. It’s considered the other teams point
    • Interfering with players under the net is not allowed
    • Teams will change servers after they have scored on an opponent’s play
    • Teams must rotate through each position
    • Libero position may be given to a team mate but is not mandatory.
      • There can only be 1 libero per team per set
      • Liberos may not back row attack
      • Liberos may not go on front row player must be swapped out
    • Back row attacks are allowed by any player except Liberos as long as player doesn’t make contact with 10 foot line before making contact with the ball. 
    • Players may use their feet to receive the ball. But contact must be made below the knee. And no higher then standing ankle. Please ask OVC what this looks like 
    • Throughout the course of the match should any disagreements regarding a play arise, OVC referee will settle all disputes

 

OVC Playoffs

      • Roster rules are the same as the regular season. Minimum of 5 players on the court with two girls and subs are allowed if approved by OVC staff
      • If 6 or more rostered players are playing subs cannot be used
      • Single elimination tournament

Winners of league receive*

      • Each player receives $10 off next session. 
      • A picture with team posted on OVC website and OVC social media accounts 
      • Medals for each team member to keep 

Runners up receive* 

      • A picture with team posted on OVC website and OVC social media accounts

*Only rostered players receive prizes. Subs do not.
